Review First, Then Book
When traveling I often get asked where do I go to book my flights. I am a bargain shopper when it comes to traveling. I will spend ample time checking out various travel websites for the best deals but, when all else fails, my go-to site is Hipmunk.com for both air travel and hotel accommodations.
I am not a fussy traveler as I have stayed in a hostel as well as hotels with a personal butler. When it came to our flight to Bali I was a little picky because I knew the total travel time would be about 20 hours. I wanted to make sure I was on a comfortable flight.
The biggest thing for me was checking airline reviews before booking and I HIGHLY recommend you do the same. I also kept in mind that one traveler’s experience might not be the same experience as mine but, if several people said the food was horrible and the airplane had too many delays I paid attention. I ended up booking a round-trip flight on Hong Kong Airlines from Los Angeles to Bali (with a layover in Hong Kong) for a little under $600. I actually saw it as low as under $500 when I first thought of the idea to travel to Bali.
Planning In The Midst Of Disaster
Our flights were booked and two weeks prior to our trip, Indonesia was hit with a devastating earthquake and tsunami and Hong Kong was hit with a devastating tsunami as well. Needless to say, I was sad for the people who were affected but, I did not want to let horrible weather detour me. I guess you can say I am an adventure seeker as I know most would have taken it as a sign to cancel the trip. I had already made it up in my mind that I had an event to cover and a picture to take and nothing was going to stop me.
